PILOT offers - Payment In Lieu Of Taxes - is very popular in governmental circles - local, state and federal all offer tax breaks to get business to settle in their jurisdiction. The competition can be stiff. But it hurts us all.

Texas has attracted MASSIVE numbers of businesses because of their low tax structure, but Texas can't afford to regulate ANYTHING, and so you get random businesses blowing up or pumping out defective product that can harm customers.

If we truly were a UNITED States, we'd stop this nonsense, charge taxes on business equally all around the country and protect both workers and customers.
