Schumer: Sessions 'Seems To Be Violating' His Recusal From Russia Probe

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Sunday questioned whether Attorney General Jeff Sessions is adhering to his promise to recuse himself from the investigation into ties between President Donald Trump’s campaign and Russia.

“He didn’t tell the truth about meeting with the Russians, so he recused himself. Now he seems to be violating that recusal,” Schumer said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

He said Sessions’ “actions of the last week make all the more reason that he should not be attorney general.”

In his letter of termination to former FBI Director James Comey, Trump on Tuesday cited letters from Sessions and deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

The New York Times reported later the same day that Sessions was tasked with “coming up with reasons to fire” Comey, who led the bureau’s probe into possible collusion between Trump associates and Russian officials.
