This blog will focus on political images I have found all around the Internet, though I will intersperse some commentary and quotes that I find interesting.
It is not the gun that are dangerous but the lack of awareness about it. According to a survey, there are lots of Americans who own a handgun but they still don't know how to properly aim for a target. That lack of awareness becomes danger when they really have to point the gun at some threat.
In response to Firearms Safety Training Classes - I know it's not likely you'll return to see my post, but here goes anyway...
I started shooting guns as a teenager - got my first 22 at 14 and immediately took hunter training classes here in New York State. (Despite the fact that most people equate New York State with New York City, I live nowhere near the Big Apple and have lived mostly in pretty rural areas.) To this day I still own 4 guns.
That being said, when you say "it is not the gun," I must disagree. Of course it's the gun. It wasn't the pencil - it wasn't even the knife or the sword. It was a gun in the hands of a human being. And we are human - we make mistakes - lots of them - with our cars, with our tempers, with our lack of good judgment in all sorts of situations.
Guns in the hands of people - both good guys and bad guys - are causing way too much collateral damage in the U,.S. and I think it's time to weigh the benefit-cost analysis of having so many damn guns in the hands of so many damn people who have no need for those guns.
Universal background checks, mandatory training with periodic refresher courses, mandatory liability insurance, a limit on the number and types of guns are all ideas that we need to try. EVERY LIFE LOST IS A GOD-DAMN TRAGEDY THAT CAN'T BE REPLACED.
