I've often thought that the argument that the world is so beautiful because God created it was nonsensical. The world is beautiful to us because it is what we were born into. If we were born into a world with an earth made of purple concrete, then we would find purple concrete, in just the right light, to be beautiful.
Well, his opinion of religion is a little strong - he might have chosen words a little less harsh.
