Only days after Trump deployed a naval strike group to the Korean Peninsula, North Korea issued a grave warning to the United States. Per the state-run Central News Agency, a spokesman for North Korea’s Foreign Ministry said:
“We will hold the U.S. wholly accountable for the catastrophic consequences to be entailed by its outrageous actions.”
“This goes to prove that the U.S. reckless moves for invading [North Korea] have reached a serious phase of its scenario. If the U.S. dares opt for a military action, crying out for ‘preemptive attack’ and ‘removal of the headquarters,’ [North Korea] is ready to react to any mode of war desired by the U.S.”Tensions have risen recently between the United States and the international community. Just days ago, Trump launched 59 Tomahawk missiles onto a Syrian base. Following that strike, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson issued a general warning:
“If you violate international agreements, if you fail to live up to commitments, if you become a threat to others, at some point a response is likely to be undertaken.”Although Tillerson didn’t mention North Korea by name, his statement was enough to elicit a response from Pyongyang.
