"Elites have taken all the upside for themselves and pushed the downside to the working- and middle-class Americans,” said Steve Bannon, Trump's fake populist, who, as Francis Wilkinson says below, dabbles on the side running a website popular with racists.
No one knows exactly what Trump will do but here are some clues:
1. He says he wants to drop the top tax rate from 39.6 percent to 25 percent. This will give the top 0.1 percent (with incomes of more than $3.7 million in 2017) a tax cut of more than $1.3 million each, every year.Early signs are that Trump won’t be sticking it to America's elite. He'll be sticking it to everyone else.
2. Trump is now "draining the swamp" in Washington by empowering lobbyists on his transition team, where they oversee the issues they're paid to influence. (Trump’s transition team consists of lobbyists for Altria, Visa, Coca-Cola, General Electric, Verizon, HSBC, Pfizer, Dow Chemical, and Duke Energy.) And K Street is salivating over all the new opportunities to deliver goodies to their clients in the Trump era.
And what about the non-elites?
3. He wants to repeal Obamacare, which will eliminate affordable health insurance for up to 20 million low-income Americans.
4. Children who came to the U.S. illegally when they were infants will soon face deportation.
5. Working women now face more sexual harassment because Trump has legitimized it. African-Americans, Muslim-Americans, and Latinos are experiencing more bullying and intimidation because of the furies Trump let loose.
