The "straw man" argument is one of conservatives' favorite means of winning the war of words. They create a scenario that's not true - one that not only takes a liberal position ("I like Barack Obama as President) and expands it to the point of ridiculousness ("I want Obama to fuck me every night"), but gives them the opportunity to create hate and fear while doing it. They can then argue in terms that their uneducated base will comprehend. It is in this instance - when they are arguing against a story they themselves fabricated (the straw man) - that they can actually win an argument. Something that's hard for them to do when confronted with the truth.
