Straw-man arguments

Conservatives and religious fanatics love to start off arguments with a false premise - it is usually how you can tell a sound argument from a phony one. It is often difficult to deal with such arguments in face-to-face contacts, because you don't have an encyclopedia of facts memorized with which to refute their claims. It works especially well for them with stupid people.
