What is Dumber Than a Load of Bricks

I read an article a couple of days ago that said that it was elitist for liberals to consider themselves smarter than Republicans - that we underestimate our opponents by calling them stupid. Maybe so - I do believe, after having spent a full career in teaching, that we all have expertise in different areas.

Some kids did not do well in school, but excelled in sports - or carpentry. I always did pretty well in school, myself, but I can't hit a golf ball straight - nor drive a nail into a piece of wood - to save my life. We all do some things better than others. Hopefully we find ourselves working in our area of expertise in this life.

But conceding that Republicans are not as stupid as we sometimes portray them does not preclude the fact that they are smart in other things than politics. No matter what is said, I still believe that the thing that draws Republicans together is their absolute lack of comprehension on issues of a political nature.

How else can you explain the dumb?

From Think Progress (where they also have a video)...

PALIN: Let me speak specifically about a credential that I do bring to this table, Charlie, and that’s with the energy independence that I’ve been working on for these years as the governor of this state that produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy, that I worked on as chairman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, overseeing the oil and gas development in our state to produce more for the United States.

...

But, as the non-partisan FactCheck.org points out, Palin’s claim about Alaska producing 20 percent of America’s domestic energy supply is “not true. Not even close.” In fact, “Alaska’s share of domestic energy production was 3.5 percent.”

See - I don't believe that she's lying on purpose. She's lying because she's too dumb to know the actual figure and so makes this shit up. And because so many other Republicans are so dumb (on political issues) they believe everything she says without bothering to check the facts. But I'll bet they can whoop my butt on the golf course.
