Yes, it's true. Conservative news organizations and bloggers alike are rushing to assure everyone the George W. Bush is stupid! To pinpoint his stupidity, conservatives are showcasing the President's participation in the teleconference with FEMA officials the day before Katrina struck the Gulf Coast. In the teleconference, the President was briefed as to the possibility of the levees around New Orleans being "overrun" by the storm surge. Our glorious leader was unable to extrapolate, from that data or any of the other data presented to him in the days preceeding Katrina, that the levees might also be "breached."

It opened by falsely stating Bush had been warned of levee breaches in the final pre-landfall briefing August 29:
“In dramatic and sometimes agonizing terms, federal disaster officials warned President Bush and his homeland security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck that the storm could breach levees, put lives at risk in New Orleans' Superdome and overwhelm rescuers, according to confidential video footage.”
But the AP’s Friday night “
clarification” of the story by Margaret Ebrahim and John Solomon explained:“In a Wednesday story, The Associated Press reported that federal disaster officials warned President Bush and his Homeland Security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck that the storm could breach levees in New Orleans, citing confidential video footage of an Aug. 28 briefing. The Army Corps of Engineers considers a breach a hole developing in a levee rather than an overrun. The story should have made clear that Bush was warned about floodwaters overrunning the levees, rather than the levees breaking.”
