Just when did the income inequality begin to run rampant?
I keep hammering at the problem of income inequality because it is bringing America to its knees. When so few people own so much of a nation's wealth, there's just not enough left over for the people in the middle to survive. And the Republicans, the wealthy ones anyway, are hammering at ever more ways to get the rest of the money. They won't be happy until there is a huge underclass of very, very poor people who will work for them for subsistence wages, live in their company towns and service their fat-cat lives. THAT's what conservatives, the wealthy ones anyway, wish to return to.

Explaining wealth inequality
I've been on this topic a long time. I still think it is the largest problem we face in the U.S. - far greater than the debt/deficit problem. Watch and learn.

Why our economy remains in decline.
I keep raising the issue of income inequality as a major cause of the economic malaise in the U.S., but most Republican s continue to harp on the debt and the deficit. If we fixed the income inequality problem, folks, some of the debt/deficit issues would go away.

The carried interest loophole for millionaire traders is the perfect example of the tax breaks the GOP is risking recession to protect.
This is why Mitt Romney pays a lower tax rate than you do
I'm about to shock you.
Read this: "Skewing income toward the upper, upper class hurts our economy because the rich tend to sit on their money - unlike lower- and middle-income people, who spend a large share of their paychecks, and hence stimulate economic activity."
Guess who wrote it?
A Republican. And not just a regular Republican, the Republican woman who George W. Bush picked to run the FDIC - Shelia Bair.
In 2013, it's nearly a miracle when someone who identifies as a Republican dares to state common sense.
But Bair didn't stop there in her recent op-ed for the New York Times "Grand Old Parity." She called on the GOP to end the tax breaks we give to hedge fund managers that allow them to treat their income as investment income - a heinous exploitation of the tax code that has been protected by Republicans and a few Democrats due the the outrageous amount of money the financial industry spends on lobbying.

It's really not the debt
For several years I followed the writings of a conservative economist, but recently I've had to give up reading his articles. He is so stridently in favor of cutting spending and government oversight of business that he no longer gives even a modicum of lip service to the inequity in the incomes of Americans.
Listen, I'll buy into the fact that the nation's debt is a problem, but I won't buy into the fact that income inequality is not a big factor in that problem. If you're going to deal with any of it, you've got to deal with all of it.

In a rational world, a new study that came out today on income equality would constitute a major blow to the GOP argument on the sequester.
The new study was performed by Thomas Hungerford of the non-partisan Congressional Research Service. Though the study is not a CRS product, Hungerford's data is widely cited on both sides; he's an impeccably objective analyst.
Here's what Hungerford found: The single greatest driver of income inequality over a recent 15 year period was runaway income from capital gains and dividends.[emphasis mine]
