This poster is rather interesting in light of the turmoil the last couple of days over the Larry Craig incident. Now the Republicans are claiming the sole reason for their defeat in the Congressional elections in 2006 was the Mark Foley scandal. No credit is given for the election loss to the Iraq war, the privatization of public resources, the loss of civil rights, etc. Looks like the Repugs have still got their heads up their asses.

Finally, we can put Cocktober behind us: The Republican House Leadership has just concluded that the Republican House Leadership is totally innocent of wrongdoing in the Mark Foley cover-up.

Jesus, they’re really proud of themselves for taking nine weeks to file a report that finds no fault with a years-long effort to cover up a congressman known to prey on teen-aged boys. Nice going, amoral scumbags!

There is, of course, a powerful element of irony in the current spectacle in Congress. Republican congressional leaders who claimed that Clinton should be removed from office for trying to conceal a sexual affair are now accused of a systematic cover-up to protect a sexual predator. Those who stoked up their political base through appeals to anti-gay bigotry and moralizing condemnation of sexual promiscuity now find themselves hoisted on their own petard.
