In new Twitter fit, Donald Trump attacks our courts and the rule of law itself

Another day, another Donald Trump fit on Twitter. This time the so-called president took the opportunity to undermine the American rule of law itself.

Just cannot believe a judge would put our country in such peril. If something happens blame him and court system. People pouring in. Bad!

To be clear here, this is the current inhabitant of the White House publicly declaring that if there is another terrorist attack on America, it will be because we as a nation did not suspend the Constitutional rule of law to enact his every policy. If it happens, says Donald Trump, blame our "court system."

He's been in office only a few weeks and already is attempting to delegitimize the entire judicial branch of government—in favor of his own secretly-crafted edicts. Yes, he is attempting to run the country as an authoritarian. Yes, the Donald Trump White House is openly flirting with the tenets of fascism.

So now we have tomorrow's news headlines, and tomorrow's shouted question to every Republican leader in the House and Senate. Do you agree that America should suspend our Constitution-based rule of law in order to prevent terrorism? Do you agree that when the next terrorist attack happens—and there will always be a next attack, whether it be weeks from now or years from now—we should blame our federal courts, and in fact blame specific judges?

This is tremendously dangerous rhetoric. It is an attempt to turn Americans—or at least, his own supporters—against the rule of American law itself. He also targets a single, specific judge. This is not merely beneath the dignity of the office, this is beneath the dignity of the nation.
