Steve Bannon: 'Maybe that's not such a bad thing' if only property owners can vote

Donald Trump's appointed senior strategist Steve Bannon is not, Steve Bannon's friends insist, a white nationalist. And yet he sure does wear the suit, as recounted here by the New York Times.

Ms. Jones, the film colleague, said that in their years working together, Mr. Bannon occasionally talked about the genetic superiority of some people and once mused about the desirability of limiting the vote to property owners.
“I said, ‘That would exclude a lot of African-Americans,’” Ms. Jones recalled. “He said, ‘Maybe that’s not such a bad thing.’ I said, ‘But what about Wendy?’” referring to Mr. Bannon’s executive assistant. “He said, ‘She’s different. She’s family.’”
Feel free to debate which part of the sentiment is most loathsome, from the notion that only "property owners" have a vested interest in their country or the blithe admission that such a policy would disproportionately strip black Americans of voting rights or the inevitable black friend who is "different" from all the others because the speaker can vouch for that one.

Over the weekend the president-elect launched himself into an unhinged tweetstorm claiming that "millions" of people "voted illegally" in his recent election—a hoax—and claiming "voter fraud" in three pro-Clinton states—also without evidence. For attorney general he seeks to appoint Sen. Jeff Sessions, a man dogged by claims of racism and a fierce opponent of voting rights. He's also tapped Kris Kobach, extremist author of some of the most brazen voter suppression and other anti-minority laws in the United States.

A team has been handpicked, in other words, for an assault on minority voting rights under the banner of "protecting" the election. Since Donald Trump is a very stupid and incurious man, he likely is getting his "voter fraud" information from the Bannons and Kobaches and Roger Stones of his team, all of whom have been happy to push whatever conspiracy theories need pushing in order to claim that voting rights need to be curbed.

We don't really need to ponder where Trump's team is going with this one. They're all on the same page here.
