The Irony of believing in heaven...
When I was a child growing up in a
Protestant church, I was taught that each human had a soul – a sort
of shapeless, formless entity that went to heaven when we died.
Modern theory seems to teach that the soul is not just a spirit, but
it includes our brains (all of our thoughts and knowledge), our eyes
(we can recognize all of our friends and relatives), and our mouths (we
can converse with everyone else in some sort of universal language.)
I must confess – I don't see this modern version of death as
anything more than people wanting to believe that they are not dead,
just in another world similar to this one. Seriously, what sort of
delusion is this?
