The six Republicans during this span of time were: Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush I and II.The five Democrats were: Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, Carter and Clinton.
Of the above presidents, here's a list of who did the best on eight of the most generally accepted measures of good management of the nation's economy.
The highest growth in the gross domestic product: Harry Truman (D)
The highest growth in jobs: Bill Clinton (D)
The biggest increase in personal disposable income after taxes: Lyndon Johnson (D)
The highest growth in industrial production: John F. Kennedy (D)
The highest growth in hourly wages: Lyndon Johnson (D)
The lowest Misery Index (inflation plus unemployment): Harry Truman (D)
The lowest inflation: Harry Truman (D)
The largest reduction in the deficit: Bill Clinton (D)
