John Adams

I love this country and most of what it stands for - most of the time. I honor and respect the Declaration of Independence - the Constitution - the Bill of Rights - the amendments which guarantee rights for everyone. We can do better - there are still "groups" that are treated disrespectfully (gays for one) and we have loopholes that allow some religious zealots to harass citizens - but we will work on that as time passes.

Yesterday I watched the first two episodes of "John Adams" which is airing on HBO in a 7-part mini-series and I am blown away. What an incredible, far-out mission those pioneers of this nation undertook. To rebel against the King - to stand up to the Tories who wished to remain subjects of Great Britain - to risk their lives to gain freedom for those of us who follow - what a brave, imaginative and stirring thing for them to have done.

I hope, in their hearts, they knew of the success of their sacrifice before they died. Honestly - what great men they were.
