Can the believers explain this?

Aha! Confirmation!

I've said it a dozen times in my posts - our religions are offered up so that you can pick and choose, cafeteria style, the parts you like. I saw on TV this morning some woman from America who was sad about the Pope retiring from his job - but then she added, "I didn't believe everything he taught." Sorry, lady, you don't get to choose - either you believe in your church - or you don't.

Tell me again about your religion?

We're still shooting each other - no new gun control laws

The NRA - still honing their message.

President Obama is dangerous

The conservatives and libertarians are winning

I suspect that someday the tide will turn once again, but for the recent past and the foreseeable future, the people of faith, the people of fear and the people of hate are winning the race. For those of us who are more generous and better educated, it is a sad time.

Seems logical

The problem with the logic in this image is that it's not 1 person, it's 535 people, each representing a different constituency. And most voters are happy with the way their elected officials are doing their job - they just hate everybody else's elected officials. Just sayin'.

Now with the Pope resigning, maybe they can get their values sorted out.

Catholic bishops announce new rule: No more saying a fetus is not a person just to win a lawsuit
from Daily Kos by rss@dailykos.com (Kaili Joy Gray)

Jesus H. Tapdancing Christ, these guys are shameless:
It was a startling assertion that seemed an about-face from church doctrine: A Catholic hospital arguing in a Colorado court that twin fetuses that died in its care were not, under state law, human beings. [...]
On Monday, the hospital and the state's bishops released a statement acknowledging it was "morally wrong" to make the legal argument.

Our loving God - maybe not so much.

Yeah - sorry - but it's funny. Stupid beliefs do that to ya. Part 2

Yeah - sorry - but it's funny. Stupid beliefs do that.

Still shooting each other - no new gun control

If only there were some facts we could point to. Oh yeah - there are.

This is the way guns SHOULD be controlled!

Speaking of Republican dickheads

All of the states in the US have their own problems to work on, but the Republicans in particular can be some real dickheads...

From Daily Kos

Rick Perry begging California businesses to head to Texas
Perry has launched a high-profile battle for California companies, running radio ads in California touting the Lone Star State's low taxes and favorable business climate. The ads will be heard in San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego and the Inland Empire area east of Los Angeles. "Building a business is tough, but I hear building a business in California is next to impossible. This is Texas Gov. Rick Perry, and I have a message for California businesses: Come check out Texas," starts the 30-second spot.
Perry hears that building a business in California is next to impossible? The same California that has more Fortune 500 businesses than any other state? The same California that has given us Apple, Facebook, Twitter, Intel, Disney, DirecTV, Amgen, Clorox, eBay, Visa, Mattel, HP, Gap and even Chevron? (How's that for a diversified economy?) Man, how did all those companies build their businesses when it was impossible to do so?
Perhaps Rick Perry heard wrong.
As I noted last week, conservatives have a ton invested in the fiction that California businesses are fleeing to Texas in massive numbers. The reality is that California had 254 businesses leave the state in 2011, only about three dozen to Texas. At the same time, California entrepreneurs started about 167,000 new businesses. So you can imagine, the Golden State isn't exactly trembling with fear.

A religion worth following

I watched a movie a couple of days ago that got me thinking about Christianity again (lots of things do because it is so prevalent in our every day lives here in America). And I started to think that maybe it's not religion that is so bad, but it is WHAT we worship.

Let's analyze - in Christianity, God existed, created man in his own image, hated us so much that he eventually killed (drowned) everyone on earth except for Noah, then came to earth as the child of a woman he raped, had himself killed, then returned as a zombie, rose up to heaven (wherever that is) and continues to leer down at us. He has the power to grant the world peace and freedom from hunger and the nasty elements, but chooses not to do that. He seems to revel in watching us suffer so that we will come begging for help. He has a HUGE ego.

Why did he do all of this? Because he wants to be worshiped. He wants us to adore him, and fear him, so that he can reward us (big hero guy) or punish us (we be bad). You see? It's all about HIM. He is being totally selfish - he wants you to be his bitch or he'll burn you badly. According to Christianity  we are nothing but his toys.

But perhaps, just perhaps, there is a religion that makes more sense. In this religion we are all an accident of the universe - and because of that there is good and there is evil in this world. It's random. But there is, walking among us, someone who represents the very best in humankind. His works are told in hundreds of books, movies and stories.

His parents were killed when he was a child, but from the time that he first came to adulthood, he did good things. He fought for the poor and the downtrodden - he fights evil at every turn. He has even died and been resurrected to continue to fight to save us. I saw this exact story told in the movie I just watched.

Who is it that we should worship? It's the goddam BATMAN. He does not ask to be worshiped - he fights for US. The focus is on US. He is not selfish, begging for your praise. He hides his true identity (though you can find out who he really is if you read some of the religious tomes about his work) so that you will not seek him out for praise or special favors. He will not punish you if you are good - he strikes fear only into the hearts of those who are evil.

Yes, I see little reason not to push this new religion - one for which I am offering the name - Batmanity - to give praise to a hero who seeks no personal glory, who does not demand that we kneel before him - but brings pure goodness and love to the people of Gotham.

All hail Lord Batman!

CNN - Fox Lite

I've pretty much stopped watching CNN. Too often they accept Republican lies, misinformation and propaganda without challenging any of it, yet it seems they are perfectly willing to go after Democrat's platforms. I'm tired of it.

From Crooks and Liars...

Elaine Chao Slams Obama's 'Far-Left Agenda' Without Disclosing She's Married to Mitch McConnell. Thanks, CNN!
Love that librul media! On CNN's State of the Union, former Bush Labor Secretary Elaine Chao was busily blasting President Barack Obama's "far-left agenda" and claimed that he had not been as willing to work towards bipartisan solutions as Republican senators.
Oddly enough, CNN host Candy Crowley did not think it worth mentioning to viewers that Chao is married to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). Wonder why?

Shootings

A little reality in light of the NRA's call for more guns so people can protect themselves: more cars on the road means more accidents; more phones in people's pockets means more phone calls; more alcohol in people's hands means more drunks; more guns in people's hands means more shootings. Yes?

And now check this out - shooting someone in the back is self-defense. That's an interesting claim.
