/We need guns?

No matter the rationale for owning guns in the US, it appears that the greatest need is for killing people. We, as a nation, do a lot of it. I post some of the news articles everyday. I haven't yet seen any news articles about the fight against tyranny. Did I miss something?

Weapons

I have so many posts and comments on Facebook about guns not being such a big problem because of the preponderance of other weapons that the following e-card I saw yesterday just made me laugh out-loud. It is the PERFECT comeback.

Obama has been cutting spending

I don't have any information in addition to what is in the chart, but if I was to guess, I'd bet a lot of the spendning cuts come from winding down two wars.

Catholic Church - Money is more important than the fetus

The source for all that follows...

A fetus is not a person if it costs us money, says Catholic Church
byKaili Joy GrayFollow

You know how the Catholic Church is always going on and on ... and on and freakin' on ... about the sanctity of life and also a bunch of vague concepts about liberty 'n stuff? We can't have abortion because every sperm is sacred. We can't have insurance coverage for women's health care because something about Taco Bell and freedom. We can't even fund cancer screening because apparently Jesus was cool with women dying of undetected breast cancer.

And all of this-all of it-goes back to the Church's insistence that life begins with your very first hell-worthy dirty thought and must be protected at all costs, despite all consequences, including, of course, the consequence of dead women, whose lives are not nearly as valuable as the "life" of an unborn fetus. In just the past year, the Church has called upon its faithful followers to march, to starve themselves, to go to jail, to even take up arms-all to protect those fetuses. No exceptions. None. Not if the fetus is already dead inside the womb. Not if the fetus is going to kill the actual living woman carrying it. No goddamned exceptions EVER.

Well, except for one: when it's going to cost the Church money.

Turns out, when a man sues a Catholic hospital for malpractice because his wife and the twins she was carrying inside her died when she turned up in the emergency room and her doctor never bothered to answer a page-well, things get a little tricky. Yes, the Catholic hospital adheres to the strict Ethical and Religious Directives of the Catholic Church, as set forth by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. And yes, those directives include the claim that "[t]he Church's defense of life encompasses the unborn" and a mandate to uphold "the sanctity of life 'from the moment of conception until death.'" But come on. That obviously does not apply when Catholic Health Initiatives, the Church-affiliated organization that runs the Church-affiliated St. Thomas More Hospital where a young woman and her two unborn fetuses died, is the lead defendant in a lawsuit:

Instead, they are arguing state law protects doctors from liability concerning unborn fetuses on grounds that those fetuses are not persons with legal rights.
As Jason Langley, an attorney with Denver-based Kennedy Childs, argued in one of the briefs he filed for the defense, the court "should not overturn the long-standing rule in Colorado that the term 'person,' as is used in the Wrongful Death Act, encompasses only individuals born alive. Colorado state courts define 'person' under the Act to include only those born alive. Therefore Plaintiffs cannot maintain wrongful death claims based on two unborn fetuses."

Weapon of choice

Grasping at straws, gun nuts love to point out the number of deaths in the U.S each year from hammers. "Should we ban hammers?" they ask. Well, no, and no one is suggesting that we ban all guns. On the other hand, if DeWalt was producing an automatic hammer that allowed carpenters to shot each other with deadly projectiles from hundreds of yards away, maybe, just maybe...

It's just so sad - Our freedom disintegrates

Congress decides every aspect of your electronic life can be spied on without a warrant and you can't know how much spying is going on

Rubio - Keep women in subservience

From Daily Kos

-----------Here's Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida to show us how it's done:

"Today marks the tragic anniversary of one of America's most blatant instances of judicial activism that paved the way for the destruction of innocent unborn life. Since this decision, tens of millions of our nation's unborn babies have been denied the chance to celebrate a birthday, begin kindergarten or go on to contribute their God-given talents to our world.
"As a U.S. senator, I am privileged to serve in a position that allows me to fight for the lives of the unborn. I will continue to fulfill my duty to fight to reduce the number of abortions. As with many of our nation's most important debates, the battlefield of this issue is in the hearts and minds of the American electorate, and I pray that we can one day live in a society that fully cherishes every life from conception until death."

Good job, Senator, that's exactly the kind of utterly meaningless rhetorical bullshit we've come to expect from your side. But just a few questions:
(1) Where, in the oath of office you took, did it say you have a "duty" to do anything about abortion? There's that "uphold the Constitution" thing, but to say that duty includes anything about waging a war on women's reproductive rights is a bit of a stretch. Please explain.

(2) Where is the research that shows defunding women's health care and even trying to block access to birth control somehow reduces the number of abortions? There's plenty of research that shows increased access to health care reduces abortions. There's plenty of research that shows how legitimate sex education-not that pseudoscience "just say no for Jesus" stuff-reduces unwanted pregnancies, which reduces abortions. But what scientific study did you read that tells you stripping women of their rights reduces abortions? Please explain.

(3) Are you pregnant? No? Then maybe you could shut the heck up and get back to defending the actual Constitution, not the one you and your pals created in your fevered little brain.

They talk pretty tough

They talk really tough on Facebook and in print, but they've never really had to pull a gun on someone and shoot them - someone who wants to shoot back especially.

Women in politics

The Republicans are proud of the beauty and youth their women have to offer - they feature legs and boobs prominently on Fox News all the time. I'd like to make a point, however. They might do better if they featured some women of intelligence (not saying there aren't any with both looks and brains, but they are focusing WAY too much on just the looks.)

George HW Bush to the NRA

Letter of Resignation Sent By Bush to Rifle Association
Published: May 11, 1995
Published in the New York Times

Following is the letter of resignation sent last week by former President George Bush to the National Rifle Association: May 3, 1995

Dear Mr. Washington,

I was outraged when, even in the wake of the Oklahoma City tragedy, Mr. Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of N.R.A., defended his attack on federal agents as "jack-booted thugs." To attack Secret Service agents or A.T.F. people or any government law enforcement people as "wearing Nazi bucket helmets and black storm trooper uniforms" wanting to "attack law abiding citizens" is a vicious slander on good people.

Al Whicher, who served on my [ United States Secret Service ] detail when I was Vice President and President, was killed in Oklahoma City. He was no Nazi. He was a kind man, a loving parent, a man dedicated to serving his country -- and serve it well he did.

In 1993, I attended the wake for A.T.F. agent Steve Willis, another dedicated officer who did his duty. I can assure you that this honorable man, killed by weird cultists, was no Nazi.

John Magaw, who used to head the U.S.S.S. and now heads A.T.F., is one of the most principled, decent men I have ever known. He would be the last to condone the kind of illegal behavior your ugly letter charges. The same is true for the F.B.I.'s able Director Louis Freeh. I appointed Mr. Freeh to the Federal Bench. His integrity and honor are beyond question.

Both John Magaw and Judge Freeh were in office when I was President. They both now serve in the current administration. They both have badges. Neither of them would ever give the government's "go ahead to harass, intimidate, even murder law abiding citizens." (Your words)

I am a gun owner and an avid hunter. Over the years I have agreed with most of N.R.A.'s objectives, particularly your educational and training efforts, and your fundamental stance in favor of owning guns.

However, your broadside against Federal agents deeply offends my own sense of decency and honor; and it offends my concept of service to country. It indirectly slanders a wide array of government law enforcement officials, who are out there, day and night, laying their lives on the line for all of us.

You have not repudiated Mr. LaPierre's unwarranted attack. Therefore, I resign as a Life Member of N.R.A., said resignation to be effective upon your receipt of this letter. Please remove my name from your membership list. Sincerely, [ signed ] George Bush

Catholics still submitting to humiliation??

I can verify - the Catholic church really - REALLY - teaches this shit.

Yeah, yeah -but - Obama!

Wal*Mart

Walmart, never forget that this driver of the American economy has their own best interests at heart, just like all good conservative Americans. We can be very proud of them.

This should save us all some time...

On the attack...

Yep, Republicans will probably call for a new impeachment probe today.

Confused Republicans

Republicans are a confused bunch of people and the confusion is caused by their deep, deep hatred for Obama (all Democrats?). If Obama wants a stimulus for the economy, they hate it. If Obama tries to meet them halfway in reducing the deficit  they like everything about it - except what he has to offer. They are some sick people.

The perversion of our political system

Source

I don't know if we can call Rick Nolan of Minnesota a freshman congressman. Technically, he is one of the incoming congressmen of the 113th Congress, but Nolan's been there before. He was part of the 94th through 96th Congress as well. And he's noticed a whole lot of changes since the last time he walked the halls of Congress. One thing that sticks out like a sore thumb? The work hours:

"My first term, we worked 48 out of 52 weeks," Nolan said on Friday's edition of The Daily Rundown. "Most of those days were four and five day weeks. We were in committee virtually every morning, we were on the floor of the House throughout the afternoons and the evenings and we were working in the process of governing which is what we're elected to do."

He expressed his disappointment that Congress is only currently scheduled to work 34 out of 52 weeks and considers most of those days "not real."

"We went into session Monday, for example, we don't have any votes scheduled until 6:30 in the evening, we were also scheduled to work on Tuesday-which we did-and then we were scheduled to work on Wednesday and we took the day off," Nolan said.

Nolan quickly agreed with the public's sentiment "everybody's campaigning and nobody's governing," saying Congress isn't governing like they should especially with all the serious issues the country is facing. He told Todd that the time given for Congressional members to campaign and the money they use has become "toxic."

"I mean, we're told here two things," he said. "One is the one with the most money gets the most votes and number two - you should be spending 30 hours a week in fundraising and call time-dialing for dollars."

If God were done correctly...
