More crazy Republican stuff

Really, Republicans contradict themselves so often they should rename their party as "The Hypocritical Party."

From Daily Kos...

Hard-right fiscal hawk Tim Huelskamp finds some pork he likes

"When I say government spends too much money, I mean in other people's districts."

Sure is funny how all this "fiscal responsibility" stuff gets drop-kicked from the top of the Rotunda when the crazy sequester hawks are talking about their own districts:

Tim Huelskamp of Kansas has been one of the most vocal tea-party-backed conservatives in the House, but his calls to shrink the size of government didn't apply when it came to bringing a new Department of Homeland Security lab to his district.

About $404 million for construction of the lab in Manhattan, Kan., was included in the fiscal 2014 Homeland Security bill (HR 2217) that the House passed this week; Huelskamp and other Kansas Republicans fought back attempts to drop the funding from the bill and keep the veterinary research facility at a site on Long Island, N.Y.

The veterinary lab will be a windfall for his district, which is of course why he's demanding it now as he makes a name for himself elsewhere as one of the most stubborn hard-right conservatives out there; even the Paul Ryan budget wasn't cutty-stabby enough for him. Now that we're talking about researching literal pork, though, it isn't pork.

When conservatives like their government

Ever notice how right-wing conservatives seem to gravitate to liberal political stances on issues that effect them personally? They hate welfare - except when it is subsidies to their family and friends - things like oil subsidies and farm subsidies. They are against government spending - except when it brings industry to their communities. They are against helping damaged communities (Hurricane Sandy) unless it is in their back yard (Katrina),

Now the new one - they are against gay marriage - unless they have a gay member of their family (VP Dick Cheney and Sen, Rob Portman)

And they wonder why we call them hypocrites and assholes? Seems fitting.

From NBC News
By Matthew DeLuca, Staff Writer, NBC News

Republican Senator Rob Portman has announced his support for same-sex marriage, saying he reversed his position on the divisive social issue after his son came out as gay.

"I have come to believe that if two people are prepared to make a lifetime commitment to love and care for each other in good times and in bad, the government shouldn't deny them the opportunity to get married," Portman wrote in an op-ed published Friday in the Columbus Dispatch.

(Douchebag!)

In case you aren't outraged enough over hypocritical Republicans, here's a little fuel for the fire.

From Daily Kos

Republican deficit peacocks also very big spenders
from Daily Kos by rss@dailykos.com (Joan McCarter)

Pity poor Rep. Cynthia Lummis, the Wyoming Republican all in a tizzy because the sequester she voted for is now biting her constituents in the ass. Her obvious problem is that she just doesn't have enough clout in her caucus. Not like this guy.

Like many House Republicans, Rep. Mike Simpson of Idaho supports "drastically reducing discretionary spending" and warns that further growth in national debt could be "disastrous for the economy." But as chairman of a powerful appropriations subcommittee in the House, Simpson takes a different tack, especially when it comes to programs that impact his home district.

"Simpson Secures Wildfire Funding in House Budget Bill," his office announced last week in a press release, trumpeting Simpson's "instrumental" role in adding $570 million in additional funds for wildfire suppression in a bill that passed the House Wednesday. [...] "Idaho and the West faced an intense fire season in 2013," Simpson said in the release, "requiring more funding than initially budgeted to protect communities and manage resources."

You'll not be at all surprised to find out that Mike Simpson was a no vote on Sandy relief. Some disasters (the ones close to home) are just more important than others.

But that's nothing compared to Speaker John Boehner.

"Spending is the problem here in Washington," he likes to say. But behind the scenes he joined a bipartisan group of Senators and Congressman to insert $181 million in funding the Army does not want for an upgrade program at the Abrams Tank manufacturing plant in Lima, Ohio, just a few dozen miles from Boehner's own Ohio Congressional district. The Army has already announced that it plans to phase out the cold-war era tank, and had sought to wind down production in Lima. Last May, the Obama Administration, citing a "fiscally constrained environment," formally objected to the new funding.

And the tank goes on. Meanwhile, Boehner is happy to let the sequester go on and on. Because in the end, he knows that he can take care of the folks back home.

What kind of people make up the Republican party?

Scott DesJarlais Fundraiser Gets Backing From Prominent GOP Colleagues
The Huffington Post  |  By Preston Maddock
Posted: 03/13/2013

A group of prominent Republican congressmen will hold a fundraiser for scandal-plagued Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-Tenn.) on Tuesday, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reported Wednesday.

DesJarlais was pushed into the national spotlight in 2012 when details of his unscrupulous past surfaced during his reelection campaign. In October, The Huffington Post reported that the anti-abortion rights congressman had had an affair with a patient and pressured her to have an abortion. During the 2001 divorce proceedings, it was also revealed that DesJarlais had encouraged his wife to have two abortions before their marriage.

Nevertheless, Reps. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), John Kline (R-Minn.) and Frank Lucas (R-Okla.) -- all powerful House committee chairmen -- have agreed to help the congressman raise money to stay in Congress.

Hypocrites

If there is a bigger hypocritical organization in the entire world, nay - in the entire history of the world - than the modern day Republican party, I'd like to hear about it. Just sayin'.

Morality

Believing in a religion does NOT make you a better person, nor does serving as a leader within the religious cult.

Another post from a Republican - again, I just can't help but point out the obvious fallacies in their thinking.

Speaking of Bill O'Reilly

Some days are worse for me than others. On a good day I can handle the outright lack of depth-of-thought in the conservative media - other days it comes close to putting me into deep despair. How can one human mind work to put a robot on Mars, but another mind can't see how fucking stupid and hypocritical its statements to the public are? Sweet Jesus.

Republican hypocrisy

Given the religious (repressive) philosophy of the Republican party, it's really no surprise that many folks try to hide their faults (some legal, some not) by shielding themselves behind the facade of the party's family values. Still, it's frustrating for many of us that the party gives them cover...

Not very bright...

Is there a point in time during any given day when Republicans come to the realization that they are very, very dumb and very, very hypocritical? Do you suppose it matters to them?

Hypocrites on the march

Them Southern, Bible-thumpin' Republicans love them some illicit sex and theft.  The Bible Belt is not necessarily the morality belt.

A Mississippi mayor has been forced to come out of the closet after charging taxpayers for a purchase made at a gay sex store in Toronto

Greg Davis, the Republican mayor of Southaven, Miss., is embroiled in a spending scandal after state auditors requested receipts for $170,000 (U.S.) in improper charges he made to the city.

According to The Commercial Appeal, a newspaper in Memphis, Tenn., the receipts include thousands of dollars in liquor and lavish dinners, as well as a $67 charge at a store called Priape, which bills itself as “Canada’s premiere gay lifestyle store and sex shop.”
Mr. Davis ran as a conservative, family values candidate in an unsuccessful bid for Congress in 2008. He has a wife of 19 years, Suzann, and three young daughters, who are all active members of Heartland Baptist Church, according to the city’s website.

Conservatives are Hypocrites (But I Repeat Myself)

The Republicans are flaming hypocrites - just look up the word hypocrite in the dictionary - well, you get the idea...

On September 20, 72 Senators voted for the highly politicized, “bait and switch” resolution that condemned a newspaper ad by MoveOn.org. The amendment, offered by Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), expressly stated that the Senate would condemn “any effort to attack the honor and integrity” of “all members of the United States Armed Forces“

...

On his radio show yesterday, right-wing radio host
Rush Limbaugh attacked the “honor and integrity” of some members of the Armed Forces. Limbaugh attacked troops who hold a different viewpoint than his own as “phony soldiers.” Iraq war vet Jon Soltz writes that Limbaugh’s comments are directed at “the majority of troops on the ground in Iraq” because they “do not back the President’s failed policy.”

For all the Senators who rushed to make political hay over
an empty resolution, the spotlight is on them. Will they now enforce their “sense of the Senate” and condemn Rush Limbaugh?
