Now that more Americans than ever support marriage equality, conservatives are back to concentrating on their War on Women (abortion restrictions galore, resistance to equal pay, the Y.G. Woman Up fiasco, their attitude toward military sexual assaults, etc. ad nauseam).

However, they continue to insist that same-sex couples are icky and will spread their ickiness to children if given half a chance, because everyone knows that Teh Gay is contagious. Duh.

But study after study prove otherwise. Of course, conservatives are allergic to facts and logic, but maybe this XXXL plus-size study will change what's left of their minds, both here, in Australia, and everywhere else. Via Think Progress:

The Republicans say such stupid things.

When discussing a stupid idea, you're going to have to pull justification for your positions out of your ass. Like arguing against gay marriage by saying that the only reason for people to get married is procreation.

I say over and over again in this blog that people of faith pick and choose what they want to believe about their religion. As many people as there are believers in a religion, that's how many different versions of that religion that exist.Although the conservatives talk about traditional marriage, I've yet to see the actual Bible quote that says marriage is one man and one woman. Did I miss that reference somewhere? I might have - I'm not a Biblical scholar.

When conservatives like their government

Ever notice how right-wing conservatives seem to gravitate to liberal political stances on issues that effect them personally? They hate welfare - except when it is subsidies to their family and friends - things like oil subsidies and farm subsidies. They are against government spending - except when it brings industry to their communities. They are against helping damaged communities (Hurricane Sandy) unless it is in their back yard (Katrina),

Now the new one - they are against gay marriage - unless they have a gay member of their family (VP Dick Cheney and Sen, Rob Portman)

And they wonder why we call them hypocrites and assholes? Seems fitting.

Republican Senator Rob Portman has announced his support for same-sex marriage, saying he reversed his position on the divisive social issue after his son came out as gay.

"I have come to believe that if two people are prepared to make a lifetime commitment to love and care for each other in good times and in bad, the government shouldn't deny them the opportunity to get married," Portman wrote in an op-ed published Friday in the Columbus Dispatch.

Iowa teenager's passionate speech in support of equal marriage laws

This week, the Iowa legislature took a step toward amending their state's constitution so that it specifically bans marriage between two men or two women.

Zach Wahls—a 19-year-old Iowa college student and the son of two mothers—is one of the many Iowans who thinks it's wrong to grant special privileges to some families, and deny them to others, based solely on sexual orientation. In a passionate speech to the House Committee, he told legislators that their decision won't change his family and their love for one another, but codifying discrimination will change Iowa—in ways that harm everyone.
