This is funny...

Can you imagine a 3-year-old that can walk and talk and cross her legs? What a miracle. And the rest of the world laughs at us too.

Brought to you by the folks that oppose helping out the middle class during these tough economic times.

Where the Catholic Church Dumps It's Perverted Priests

If you read my blog, you know that one basic premise that I hold dear is that most religions are evil - they pretend morality and good will toward fellow humans, but in reality they are naught but businesses set up to make big bucks and screw over everyone but their own. A case in pooint from the Anchorage (Alaska) Daily News...

A group of 43 Alaska Natives who say they were sexually abused by Catholic priests and church volunteers have sued the Jesuit order, alleging that remote Alaska villages became a worldwide dumping ground for clergy with histories of abuse.

The 78-page lawsuit filed this week in Bethel Superior Court is the latest in an Alaska clergy scandal that involves more than 300 victims and about 40 accused perpetrators, according to Patrick Wall, a former monk and priest who works for a California law firm as an advocate for sex abuse victims.

This week's lawsuit is on behalf of 35 men and eight women, and another one is in the works with another 60 or so victims, said Anchorage attorney Ken Roosa, who is one of the lawyers representing the group.

People keep coming forward, he said.

Matt Taibbi on Tom Friedman

Adult Language If you like frank, honest, hard-hitting analysis performed on conservative thinkers, you will probably enjoy this article from Gawker. Matt Taibbi is a journalist for Rolling Stone Magazine and also a reporter for Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO. Matt is plain spoken and gets right to the heart of an issue. I loved this summary on Gawker so much that I clicked into Matt's article and read the whole thing.

Here's a clip...

And who cares if it doesn’t quite make sense when Friedman says that Iraq is like a “vase we broke in order to get rid of the rancid water inside?”Who cares that you can just pour water out of a vase, that only a fucking lunatic breaks a perfectly good vase just to empty it of water? You’re missing the point, folks say, and the point is all in Friedman’s highly nuanced ideas about world politics and the economy—if you could just get past his well-meaning attempts to explain himself, you’d see that, and maybe you’d even learn something.

My initial answer to that is that Friedman’s language choices over the years have been highly revealing: When a man who thinks you need to break a vase to get the water out of it starts arguing that you need to invade a country in order to change the minds of its people, you might want to start paying attention to how his approach to the vase problem worked out.Thomas Friedman is not a president, a pope, a general on the field of battle or any other kind of man of action. He doesn’t actually do anything apart from talk about shit in a newspaper. So in my mind it’s highly relevant if his manner of speaking is fucked.

Hypocrisy - A Basic Tenet of the Republican Party

Do you get it? Hate gays - have a gay daughter. Promote abstinence-only sex-education for teens and have a teen-age daughter, still in high school, get pregnant out of wedlock. This stuff always comes back to bite you in the ass - it's just always better to be tolerant - at least then you don't look like a fool.

What Can You See From Your House?

Jeffereson on Democracy

One of the great things about the design of our Constitution and the Bill of Rights is that it does not leave the rights of the minority to the whims of 51% of the voters - in most cases (see Prop 8). The basic rights of the minority are still protected no matter who is in the power. BUT - Thomas Jefferson had this to say...

Another Republican View

There is great excitement in the air today. A new President and his young family will take over the affairs of state. We are blessed. BUT - many Republicans mourn the potential for greater recession and more wars (after all, we haven't attacked Iran or North Korea yet.)

You'll need to click on the image in order to view it larger - whoever designed it left it difficult to read at blog size.

Great Words From a Great President

We3lcome President Obama

Letterman's Bon Voyage

“President Bush is busy saying good-bye to everybody. Last night he was on Larry King, and I think tomorrow he’s making a farewell lasagna with Rachel Ray. Bush is getting nostalgic. He says he’s not sure how he will feel on January 21st, but I think I kind of know how the rest of us will feel.”

-David Letterman

More on Prop 8

I just posted yesterday on the Proposition 8 issue going on in California - and it looks like all those folks who sniped at the gay marriages out in California now don't wish to be known by their deeds. Seems sort of like they want to be able to hide in the bushes and snipe at the homosexuals without proper credit being given for their prejudices. Might it be affecting their businesses? Poor hypocrites.

From the NY Times...

In many ways it is a typical map, showing states, highways, cities and streets.

Arrows on an online map point to the addresses of Proposition 8 supporters in the San Francisco area and across the country.

But also dotting the online display are thousands of red arrows, marking spots from Bryn Mawr, Pa., to Jamacha, Calif., identifying the addresses of donors who supported Proposition 8, which outlawed same-sex marriage in California.

It is exactly those arrows that concern supporters of the measure, who say they have been regularly harassed since the election — with threatening e-mail messages and sometimes boycotts of their businesses.

Rick takes Joe out behind the woodshed and tans his hide. Just goes to show you how ignorant Joe actually is. This is fun to watch.

You've Hearad About TARP? There's More.

Yes, Congress and the President approved TARP to the tune of $700 Billion, but there's more - much more - going on in the matter of bailing out failed financial institutions. In particular, without specific authorization, the Fderal Reserve Bank (sometimes referred to as just The Fed), has loaned out $1.2 trillion. Here's a video in which Congressman Alan Grayson Grills Fed Vice Chair Donald Kohn. It's sort of sickening.

Adolf Gets Some Help - Follow Up

Back in December I reported on a New Jersey family that had named their son Adolf Hitler - and their daughters were also given Nazi names. Click here if you don't remember the post.

Now the state of New Jersey has stepped in and, for some reason that they won't divulge (neglect? abuse?), they have removed the kids from the home. I've seen reports on this at a number of sites, but one good report can be found at Carolina Naturally.

Gitmo

It is the hope of just about every fair-minded American that Barack Obama will stop the torture of prisoners and close Guantanamo Bay shortly after noon tomorrow. Even the prisoners in the island prison are aware of what's going on and are letting their feelings be known. From Times Online...

Nearly a fifth of the detainees held at Guantánamo Bay have gone on hunger strike with the aim of attracting the attention of Barack Obama, military officials have told The Times. Most of them are being force-fed.

Of the 248 inmates inside the detention facility, 44 are refusing food — but 33 of those are receiving nutrition with tubes that are forced up their noses and into their stomachs.

Prop 8 Is Still In The News

The inauguration is covering up almost all other news, but California's Proposition 8 is still making some waves. The following is from The Bay Area Reporter...

Backers of Proposition 8 have filed a lawsuit in an attempt to avoid disclosing information about their donors, charging that people who contributed to the Yes on 8 campaign have been subjected to harassment, intimidation, and even death threats.

ProtectMarriage.com – Yes on 8 and the National Organization for Marriage, California filed the complaint Thursday, January 8, in federal district court in Sacramento.

The complaint calls California's Political Reform Act of 1974 "unconstitutional" because, among other things their right "to exercise their First Amendment rights free from threats, harassment, and reprisals outweigh the state's interest in compelled disclosure."

Sarah Palin Photoshop

This image made the rounds during the election last fall. Somebody felt the need to make Sarah Palin look even more attractive than she already was. It was never her appearance that was the issue - it was her thought process.

The Bible Speaks To Women

Click on the image to view larger.

Want to know how the women of this country should feel about the election of Barack Obama? They should believe whatever their husband/father tells them.

Republicans and Bitterness

It's not hard to find Republican sponsored images on the Internet that express their bitterness at having lost the election so badly. I guess they still think that bipartisanship is a sign of weakness and that running up huge deficits in order to reward their rich friends is the best way to tun the nation.

Warning

After years of warnings and fear-mongering by the Bush administration, I wonder what it will be like with Barack at the helm? Will we still have security colors? Has the damn thing ever changed from orange?

Dissent

It is symbolic to display the flag upside down...

THE FLAG CODE
Title 36, U.S.C., Chapter 10
As amended by P.L. 344, 94th Congress
Approved July 7, 1976

§ 176. Respect for flag: No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor. (a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
