Peoples Must Be Stupider Than Evers

It is difficult to believe that in this day and age, there are parts of this country where stupid is the official state of mind. The Governor of Alabama thinks that appealing to that stupidity will help get him reelected. No wonder our educational system is becoming the mockery of the world if this is how our citizens think.

Real Family Values

Real family values include an empathy for others and a progressive view of the world - or some statistics would suggest.

Can it be? One of the oddest paradoxes of modern cultural politics may at last be resolved.

The paradox is this: Cultural conservatives revel in condemning the loose moral values and louche lifestyles of "San Francisco liberals." But if you want to find two-parent families with stable marriages and coddled kids, your best bet is to bypass Sarah Palin country and go to Nancy Pelosi territory: the liberal, bicoastal, predominantly Democratic places that cultural conservatives love to hate.

The country's lowest divorce rate belongs to none other than Massachusetts, the original home of same-sex marriage. Palinites might wish that Massachusetts's enviable marital stability were an anomaly, but it is not. The pattern is robust. States that voted for the Democratic presidential candidate in both 2004 and 2008 boast lower average rates of divorce and teenage childbirth than do states that voted for the Republican in both elections.

Religion and Politics

If you've read any of my previous posts, you know that I am an ardent believer that organized religion is having a very negative effect on our nation. Following are some images that support my belief. Not - you can view any of the images in a larger format by clicking on the one you wish to enlarge.

Late Night Political Humor

“Sunday was the big White House Easter egg hunt. Of course, the Catholic priests didn’t have time to hide eggs, they were too busy hiding each other.” – Jay Leno

“As you know, the Roman Catholic Church continues to be rocked by this sex abuse crisis. In fact, they’re thinking of changing their name to the Roman Polanski Catholic Church.” – Jay Leno

“You know what happened in Las Vegas today? Sarah Palin, former governor of Alaska, was speaking at the alcohol convention in Las Vegas, Nev. Because, I mean, let’s face it, nothing says family values like gambling and liquor.” – David Letterman

“John McCain told Newsweek that he doesn’t really consider himself a ‘maverick.’ What kind of man would call himself a maverick for years and then suddenly say he doesn’t think of himself as a maverick? I’ll tell you what kind — a maverick.” – Jimmy Kimmel

“President Obama has come out with a new policy for using nuclear weapons. In a related story, Joe Biden said he would try not to drop the F-bomb so often.” – Jay Leno

“The Labor Department reported that the economy added 162,000 jobs last month, all of them bodyguards for Tiger Woods.” – Jay Leno

“The iPad has only been out for a few days and it has revolutionized the publishing industry. You can download books, you can read them and store them, and for religious fundamentalists, there’s a new app that lets you burn them.” – Jimmy Kimmel

Hypocrite Bankers

From Gawker...

JP Morgan's mortgage chief David Lowman yesterday told Rep. Barney Frank that he wanted people who were concerned about home foreclosures to "come to me." He had no idea he would be chased off Capitol Hill by an angry mob.

From Reuters:

Minutes later, around 50 borrowers burst from the audience and presented Lowman with a 6-page document alleging his bank reneged on a pledge to help struggling homeowners.

The activist who organized the protest said Lowman did not want to talk and left the hearing.

"He ran. He ran like a dog with its tail between his legs," said Bruce Marks of the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America (NACA), which helps homeowners avoid foreclosure. "He was scared to death because he doesn't really want to talk to homeowners."

A spokesman for JP Morgan Chase declined to comment on his boss being bitched out.

Hey, Teabaggers....

I found the following posted on Down With Tyranny...

Is your brother-in-law a teabagger? He might be interested in discussing this. It was originally posted on Rosie O'Donnell's blog as a response to all the anti-Obama email she gets.

You didn't get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.

You didn't get mad when Cheney allowed energy company officials to dictate energy policy.

You didn't get mad when a covert CIA operative got outed.

You didn't get mad when the PATRIOT Act got passed.

You didn't get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us.

You didn't get mad when we spent over 600 billion (and counting) on said illegal war.

You didn't get mad when over 10 billion dollars just disappeared in Iraq.

You didn't get mad when you found out we were torturing people.

You didn't get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans.

You didn't get mad when we didn't catch Bin Laden.

You didn't get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.

You didn't get mad when we let a major US city, New Orleans, drown.

You didn't get mad when we gave a 900 billion dollar tax break to the rich.

You didn't get mad when the deficit hit the trillion dollar mark.

You finally got mad when the government decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, are all okay with you, but helping other Americans... oh hell no.

Religion Rant

Another great post from the J-Walk Blog.

And you wonder why I make fun of Christians... Joe Kovacs writes: The nonexistent, evil chick called Easter.

He makes the startling discovery that Christians worship a pagan goddess.

Most Christians, whether knowingly or unknowingly, violate this very first commandment of God each year by placing before God the actual name of a pagan goddess of fertility and the dawn.

In case you haven't figured it out by now, her name is - believe it or not - "Easter."

That's correct, folks. The word Easter is actually the name of an ancient, heathen goddess who represents fertility, springtime and the dawn. Some of her symbols are flowers, bunnies, eggs, the sun and the moon.

Who'da thunk?

Anybody with half a brain?

Just wait until he discovers that the entire basis of his religion -- the resurrection of Jesus H. Christ -- is also based on pagan myths.

Teabggers - Such Good Folks (snark)

From Gawker

Tea party protesters, on Capitol hill to rail against healthcare reform that will benefit them, and stoked up by speeches from Republican lawmakers, unleashed abuse and spit against black and gay members of congress.

The Huffington Post report that thousands of gathered protesters abused Representatives James Clyburn and John Lewis, both veterans of the civil rights movement. The latter had the word 'nigger' shouted at him. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver was spat on. When Rep. Barney Frank, report Talking Points Memo, "rounded a corner to leave the building, an older protestor yelled "Barney, you faggot." The surrounding crowd of protestors then erupted in laughter."

"It was absolutely shocking to me," Clyburn told the Huffington Post. "Last Monday, this past Monday, I stayed home to meet on the campus of Claflin University where fifty years ago as of last Monday... I led the first demonstrations in South Carolina, the sit ins... And quite frankly I heard some things today I have not heard since that day. I heard people saying things that I have not heard since March 15, 1960 when I was marching to try and get off the back of the bus."
