Impeach Obama
The Republicans really can't stand having Obama in the White House - it is driving them crazy. He is the face of the new America and it is tempting to think that a lot of the vitriol is aimed Obama's way because he is black. But I think it is something different - remember they impeached Bill Clinton as well for a simple act of consensual sex. No - the reason for the drive to impeach Obama is because they lost and they are full of rage and hate. It is what drives them to defeat treaties that would help the disabled around the world and to vote for budget cuts that would hurt the poor. They are, by and large, nasty people.

Words of Wisdom
FROM AN ESSAY by retired U.S. Army Lieutenant General William E. Odom decrying the extended tours of duty the Bush administration's policies have forced on the Army's soldiers and advocating withdrawal from Iraq as the only way to support the troops:
"The president is strongly motivated to string out the war until he leaves office in order to avoid taking responsibility for the defeat he has caused and persisted in making greater each year for more than three years. To force him to begin a withdrawal before then, the first step should be to rally the public by providing an honest and candid definition of what 'supporting the troops' really means and pointing out who is and who is not supporting our troops at war. The next step should be a flat refusal to appropriate money to be used in Iraq for anything but withdrawal operations with a clear deadline for completion. The final step should be to put that president on notice that if he ignores this legislative action and tries to extort Congress into providing funds by keeping U.S. forces in peril, impeachment proceedings will proceed in the House of Representatives. Such presidential behavior surely would constitute the high crime of squandering the lives of soldiers and marines for his own personal interest."

There is, of course, a powerful element of irony in the current spectacle in Congress. Republican congressional leaders who claimed that Clinton should be removed from office for trying to conceal a sexual affair are now accused of a systematic cover-up to protect a sexual predator. Those who stoked up their political base through appeals to anti-gay bigotry and moralizing condemnation of sexual promiscuity now find themselves hoisted on their own petard.
