During what must've been a strenuous day of campaigning in Iowa, GOP candidate Fred Thompson told potential voters at his one-and-only appearance that immigrants deserve some of the blame for the mortgage crisis.

"A lot of them couldn't communicate with the people they were getting the mortgage from," the lagging Republican told an Iowa audience during his "Clear Conservative Choice bus tour...

Thompson's stop in Mason City, Iowa, allowed him to play on Republicans' fears of immigrants and riff on apparent frustration with hearing options in Spanish on recorded phone messages.

Fred Thompson doesn't seem to be the savior for the Republican Party yet - he's faltering in the polls, looks like a doddering old fool in the debates and does not seem to have the appeal to conservatives that was anticipated. The following is from NRO - click the link to read more.

It hasn't gotten much comment yet, but in his interview on Fox last night, Fred Thompson rather emphatically told Focus on the Family chief James Dobson to take a hike. Host Sean Hannity asked Thompson about Dobson, who has attacked Thompson and made it clear he would not support a Thompson candidacy.

Without A Doubt - Make It Up

Presidential candidates like to look cock-sure about everything. How awful if they waffle on an issue (look at how the Republicans beat up on John Kerry over his flip-flopping in the run-up toe the 2004 election). But here's a good one from Hollywood Fred just over a couple of weeks ago.

"If you look back over our history, it will not take you long to realize that our people have shed more blood for other people's liberty than any other combination of nations in the history of the world." -- Fred Thompson, stump speech in Iowa, September 6, 2007.

Fact Check: While heavy, U.S. military casualties are still relatively low in comparison to the military casualties of its World War II and World War I allies. In World War II alone, the Soviet Union suffered at least eight million military deaths, or ten times the number of U.S. deaths in all wars combined.

Unh-oh. This isn't going to help creepy Uncle Fred very much....

In another blistering attack on conservative “values” voters, Hollywood Fred Thompson told South Carolina Republicans on Sunday that he isn’t a member of a church and only attends services when he visits his elderly mom in Tennessee. Even worse, Thompson says he won’t talk about religion while campaigning because it creeps him out — remember that George Bush Junior only won the reluctant support of Republican primary voters by jabbering about Jesus all the time.

Exactly four local losers showed up at a Salt Lake City GOP party to celebrate Hollywood Fred Thompson’s webcam announcement that he’s running for president yesterday — and there were snacks set up for so many more “Fredheads.”

One of the people said “While he was in the Senate, I liked his stance on the war.” Thompson left the Senate in January 2003, before the war.

Maybe the guy was talking about Afghanistan? Vietnam?

Three of the four people noted how much they loved Fred for his Christian/Conservative family values.

“People should look and see if his values match theirs,” said Thompson fan Grant Lynn. “If it feels right, they should support him.”

Fred Thompson abandoned his first wife for a blonde half his age, lost his daughter to a drug overdose, got rich helping abort fetuses and left politics to perform on a violent-crime show on teevee.
