Best Buds?

An interesting question - which McCain is back in the Senate? The guy who would do anything to appeal to his base - or the maverick?

Context Is Everything

In this video, comments from each of the candidates are taken out of context (from their first debate) and spliced together. Some pretty funny stuff.

Letterman Disses McCain

McCain's Suspended Campaign

Wonkette puts John McCain's grandstanding into perspective. A few quotes below - click the link to read the whole piece. It's good.

It really depends on what you mean by “suspend,” doesn’t it? John McCain’s maverick move to suspend his campaign so he can grandstand on something he knows literally nothing about — the American Economy — isn’t actually a suspension of anything. It’s a stupid stunt to get more campaign press coverage. And nothing is suspended at all. Go to McCain’s website, and you’ll see he’s still collecting campaign contributions and still running his trashy anti-Obama video spots.
...

Then, every few weeks, he does some showboat bullshit about being “above politics” or whatever, and an ever-decreasing number of political reporters briefly note this stunt, and then it’s all totally forgotten again.

Try to remember an example from, say, three weeks ago. Right, the GOP convention. Hurricane Gustav looked like it might pound New Orleans and the Republicans sure didn’t want to share prime time with the poor black people drowning, again, so McCain’s campaign decided it was all about “country first” and just canceled the first night of the convention and most of the second night.
...

McCain also “suspended campaigning” when he ran for president eight years ago. After telling the press (his base) that he was going to announce his run in March 1999, he melodramatically “postponed” the announcement because of the U.S. bombing of the Serbs in Kosovo (and the rest of Serbia).

Paris Hilton Responds

This video is dated, but it's still worth posting in case you never saw it. This is Paris Hilton's response to John McCain's ad comparing her with Barack Obama.

Did You Know - The Blame Game

It seems like we are not only at war in Afghanistan and Iraq, but in our legislative bodies as well. There's right and wrong on both sides...

IRAQ -- KYL, McCAIN OBSTRUCT DEFENSE BILL, THEN DISHONESTLY BLAME REID FOR NOT FUNDING THE TROOPS:

Yesterday, after a marathon night of conservative obstructionism, the Senate, by a 52-47 vote, failed to garner the necessary 60 votes needed to end debate and proceed with the Levin-Reed amendment to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq. Following the vote, Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) pulled the entire Defense Authorization bill from consideration on the Senate floor, arguing that the legislation should not be considered until the Senate is prepared to offer a future course for Iraq.

Afterward, Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Jon Kyl (R-AZ) raced to the television cameras to offer hyperbolic attacks against Reid, claiming that he had "placed the care of our wounded veterans in a lower priority than a debate over Iraq." "It's a very wreckless and irresponsible action because the troops depend upon the Defense Authorization bill passing," said Kyl. "The priorities of those who brought down this bill...clearly cannot be the welfare and benefit and arming and training of both of our active duty military and the medical care of our veterans," fumed McCain. Kyl and McCain's argument that Reid's maneuver will deny pay raises, equipment and medical care to American troops is false on its face, as the troops have all the funding they need at the moment. The bill being debated is for fiscal year 2008, which begins on Oct. 1. Funding for troops -- including emergency appropriations -- has already been earmarked through Sept. 30, 2007.

While McCain claims that Reid "brought down this bill," in fact, Reid only resorted to pulling the bill after McCain and other pro-war senators blustered and stalled, refusing to allow an up-down vote on the Levin-Reed amendment. In fact, in his floor speech yesterday, Reid specifically named McCain as one of "a handful of dedicated obstructionists" using procedural moves to block the vote.
