Full of Hot Air - Link

Another conservative talks big but won't back up his words with actions...

From the NY Times (free registration probably required)

T. Boone Pickens is not giving up his million dollars.

That’s how much he had offered to pay anyone who could disprove any of the accusations the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth made against Senator John Kerry in the 2004 presidential election – attacks Mr. Pickens, the billionaire Texas oilman,
helped finance.

A group of Swift boat veterans sympathetic to Mr. Kerry sent Mr. Pickens a letter last week taking him up on the challenge. In 12 pages, plus a 42-page attachment of military records and other documents, they identified not just one but ten lies in the group’s campaign against Mr. Kerry. They offered to meet with him to provide Mr. Kerry’s journals and videotapes from Vietnam and a copy of his full military record certified by the Navy – a key demand of Mr. Pickens and veterans who believe Mr. Kerry lied about his service to win his military decorations.

Mr. Pickens replied with a one-page letter, thanking the veterans for their research and their service, but politely saying there had been a misunderstanding. “Key aspects of my offer of $1 million have not been accurately reported,” he wrote.

Flip-Flop

Hmmm - let's see. Never allowing new information to influence your opinion on a subject sounds Republican. But then, there's this...

Video - Two Bowls of Shit (Lewis Black)

Lewis Black does a comedy sketch on John Kerry and George Bush. Funny, but the language is graphic.

Political Commentary

Now, a big issue for the Republicans has always been "flag desecration." I'm never quite sure what that means. This photo to seems to me to emphasize the most proper way to display the flag, but I think if she were to turn around, we might see that she's wearing it over her ass - perhaps not where some would like to see it displayed.

This is an old photo that came out shortly after John Kerry's gaffe last November about George Bush being stupid - or the troops were stupid - or something like that. I loved this photo, even though I'm a liberal. Just plain fun, this is.

Some days, as I listen to the war news, it seems to me that it is hard to believe that we are losing the war in Iraq. We have such incredible technology when it comes to war weapons. I'm not sure, but I don't think the Iraqis and Iranians have the same technological expertise. How could we be losing?

Stand Still and Die

A few days ago I wrote about the lack of direction we are given with President Bush's "stay the course" policy in Iraq. I'm not really sure what the hell that means, are you? Does that mean we stay in Iraq, barely holding our own, watching our soldiers get killed with little hope of accomplishing anything?

I'm not the only one. The Boston Globe reports (I picked this up from a news article in Monsters and Critics) that John Kerry has now labeled President Bush's policy as "stand still and lose." I'd like to offer another, more graphic variation - stand still and die.

I hate to repeat myself, but I still don't understand the Bush strategy. He must see that, at best, we are only holding our ground. What is he waiting for? Isn't it time to try some other strategies? I'd prefer that he start drawing down troop levels, but I'm not sure whether I even care if he escalates the war by adding more troops - just do something, for Christ's sake.
