Gun giveaways

 From Mother Jones...

Facebook Shoots Down Giveaways of Assault Weapons

The months since the Newtown massacre have seen an explosion of gun and ammo giveaways on Facebook. For some gun enthusiasts, scoring a free AR-15 assault weapon has been as easy as clicking a "like" button on the Facebook page of a firearms marketer such as 556 Tactical, Pittsburgh Tactical, or AR15News.com. Since December, the number of gun and ammo giveaways on the social networking site has increased seven-fold, according to research by the media startup Vocativ:
Facebook has allowed companies to give away guns as sweepstakes prizes since 2011. However, a Facebook spokesperson told Vocativ that the sweepstakes in question are technically ads, and therefore still violate a Facebook policy banning "the promotion and sale of weapons." As of yesterday, the Facebook pages of the three major firearms marketers had been taken down, though Facebook apparently still allows assault weapons giveaways as long as they aren't used as tools for selling guns.

Speaking of those magnetic ribbons..

...and if you're a member of Facebook, does it not drive you crazy when people post things like "Share this if you support cancer research?"  It does me. If they want to support cancer research - or "Mother's Against Distracted Driving" or any other such organization, why aren't they out organizing or raising money? Posting on FB is an absolute waste of everyone's time.

Our screwed up tax system

What do we want? Tax reform. When do we want it? NOW!

From Gawker...

Facebook Will Pay No Taxes, Get Huge Refund Instead

Facebook Will Pay No Taxes, Get Huge Refund Instead

During the year it went public, Facebook made $1.1 billion in profits. But thanks to some nifty accounting, the company won't be paying any federal or state taxes on it - instead, it will actually be receiving a federal tax refund of about $429 million.

God on Facebook

I was on Facebook not more than 30 minutes ago reading another of those posts some hapless citizen, unhappy with her life and hoping for a better future in another world made, supposedly from God asking you to repost if you believe. I thought to myself, "Self, what a helpless God it is who can't post his own Facebook messages."
