A federal judge has ordered hosting service DreamHost to provide the Trump administration with records related to an anti-Trump website. The site offered tips and resources on how to protest the inauguration, including printable signs and maps.
Earlier in the week the Department of Justice scaled back its massive request, which called for information on over a million visitors to the site. But today's ruling will still allow the government to access "all files, databases and database records." As a safeguard, the judge has set conditions on how prosecutors can collect and store the information. The company has not decided whether to appeal the decision.
I'm glad that the judge has reined in the Trump administration, but the search still raises red flags. We need to remain vigilant of inquiries directed at Trump's political opponents--it could take us another step towards tyranny.
What do you think?
