We can write that headline, right? That's how it works? If Donald Trump gets credit for Ford and Sprint jobs that were planned long before he poked his stubby little fingers into that pie, he should certainly get credit for thousands of layoffs at a retailer that he specifically demanded his supporters boycott:
Struggling with sagging sales over another crucial holiday shopping season, Macy’s announced on Wednesday that it was eliminating more than 10,000 jobs as part of a continuing plan to cut costs and close 100 stores. [...]
He attributed the decline to “broader challenges” facing much of the retail industry.
Well sure, you could attribute it to that. But Donald Trump is quite convinced that everything that happens in the world happens because he, personally, willed it into being. If a singer is selling more records, or if the markets bump up a notch, or if consumers spend money during the holidays, or if Mike Pence done good, or if the State Department negotiates a prisoner release, or if someone is getting deported, or if NFL viewer ratings are down, or if Lady Gaga exists, or if a beer changes its name, or if someone so much as says the words "radical Islam," he very loudly takes to Twitter or television to claim credit for it all.
So, as Shannon Watts points out, we can clearly give him credit for this one:

I think we can give Donald Trump credit for 10K Macy's layoffs, wiping out alleged Ford and Carrier job saves: https://t.co/dqFLJTLPM8 https://t.co/eivpvPaGwB
