There’s a dangerous disconnect going on between the United States and China. Because China takes Donald Trump seriously.
“Trump is not behaving as a president who will become master of the White House in a month,” the Communist party controlled newspaper wrote in an editorial. “He bears no sense of how to lead a superpower.”
This discovery apparently resulted from Chinese leaders, who block Twitter in their own country, actually taking a peek at Trump’s unpresidented stream of 140 character-snits. It’s not clear how, up to this point, China might have gotten the idea that Donald Trump was sane, but the leadership there has now been doused with icy cold Trump Water.
“If he treats China after assuming office in the same way as in his tweets, China will not exercise restraint,” the newspaper warned. “The Chinese government should be fully prepared for a hardline Trump.”
China has to learn that this is not a rigid system where leaders emerge after years of working within the government and ascending a ladder of mapped-out positions. Nope, in America, anyone can be president, no matter how little they’ve done, or how little they know, or how ill-suited they are to power. Which is … great. That’s great, right?
