Stumping for Donald Trump in Iowa hours after the ambush-style killing of two police officers in the Des Moines area, Rudy Giuliani claimed he didn’t want to politicize the killings. Make that, he didn’t want to politicize them “except to say it brings me back” to the killing of two New York police officers that was blamed on anger over the killings of Eric Garner and Michael Brown even though it seemingly had a lot more to do with the killer being a deeply troubled man. Giuliani’s desire not to politicize the Des Moines killings also didn’t stop him from saying:
This is not an isolated incident. This is happening all over the country.
“I’m not going to politicize this, but let me give a politicized take on a previous police killing. Just, you know, coincidentally.”
It’ll be interesting to hear Giuliani’s take when he learns about the suspect in Des Moines: a white guy with an apparent habit of carrying the Confederate flag around and getting kicked out of school athletic events by … police who he accuses of mistreating him. Can someone please ask Giuliani about that ASAP?
It’s particularly scary when you think that Confederate flag-waving is the same basic ideology sending white nationalists out to intimidate voters on Election Day.
