The Political Impact of Clinton’s Email “Scandal”: A Prediction

I hereby predict that the so-called Clinton email scandal will have precisely zero impact on the election. Here’s why:

1. The issue is pure inside baseball. You have to know a lot and care a lot to have any sense of what happened, why it happened, and why it matters. Which most people don’t.

2. Even for those who “care,” no one who has decided to vote for Donald Trump made the decision because of how Hillary Clinton configured her email system. And no exoneration or evidence that she did nothing egregious will change their minds and get them to NOT support Donald Trump.

3. Similarly, no one who has decided to vote for Hillary Clinton made the decision because they care about how she configured her email system. And no evidence she may have been stupid or mistaken will change their minds to NOT support Hillary Clinton.

This is the silly season, folks. Journalists and commentators and trolls have to fill column inches and websites even though basically nothing is happening in the campaigns. The email story is a great silly season story. But there will be another. Soon.
