Hypocrite Ted Cruz Might Be a Big Fan of Background Checks for At Least One Gun Owner

It’s no secret that when it comes to any and all mention of gun regulations, Republicans feverishly oppose practically everything. Even a regulation as simple as requiring background checks on all gun purchases – a move supported by the vast majority of Americans – is something that’s been blocked by Republicans in Congress. That shows you just how ridiculous the GOP is when it comes to guns.

What rational or sane person really opposes making sure every person buying a gun is legally able to pass a background check? But therein lies the problem – when it comes to guns, Republicans are neither sane or rational. That’s what happens when a political party sells itself to the gun lobby and the NRA.

Well, one of the prominent pro-gun fanatics within the GOP has been Sen. Ted Cruz. In 2013 he was one of the most vocal Republicans fighting against a bill that would have expanded background checks for gun sales nationwide. That’s why it’s rather hypocritical that he may require the winner of a contest for a “shooting excursion” with him to pass a background check before being allowed to participate.

Recently, Cruz launched a sweepstakes-like fundraiser for his campaign called “Shoot With Cruz” where the winner gets to go on some sort of “shooting excursion.” The thing is, that winner may have to pass a background check prior to being allowed to go:

Promotion Rules.

• One (1) potential winner will be selected by a random drawing from all eligible entries to be held at the Cruz for President headquarters on Thursday, June 11, 2015. 
• Sponsor may, at its option, conduct a background check on each potential winner. 
• Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any potential winner from receiving the Prize based on such background check if Sponsor determines, in its sole discretion that awarding the Prize to such potential winner could result in a safety or security risk to any person or persons or could result in the disruption of any event associated with the Promotion.

Sponsor will, in its sole discretion, then select one (1) winner from the list of eligible potential winners on the basis of criteria determined and applied by Sponsor to provide for an appropriate range of views, backgrounds, and interests among the winners selected. The interesting part is that this disclaimer wasn’t on the official entry form, but rather a separate Official Rules page. So, considering how irrational many of Cruz’s supporters are, it might be quite interesting if the person who ultimately wins this is forced to pass a background check prior to going shooting with the Texas senator.
