Gun control - because too many guns are being used for the wrong reasons

There have been at least 44 school shootings in the U.S. in the 14 months since the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, Mass., according to a new report compiled by Moms Demand Action and Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

In almost half of the shootings at least one person died. Within 14 months, 28 people died in school shootings and 37 people suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The shooters' ages ranged from 5- to 53-years old, according to the report. In the cases in which the shooter's age was known, 70 percent were minors.

In more than a third of cases, the shooting occurred after a disagreement at or near the school escalated.

Twenty-eight of the shootings took place at a K-12 school and 16 occurred at a college or university.
