Are you a school shooter if you bring a gun for safety, but accidentally shoot yourself? GunFAIL LIV

119 of 1,813 guns found by TSA agents at airports around the country in 2013.

.
Five cops and/or security guards were involved in GunFAIL incidents
in the past week, ranging from the guy who was hired as a bouncer to
keep guns out of a neighborhood party, but ended up somehow losing his
gun during that party, to the BART officer accidentally shot and killed
by another in the line of duty.
.
Gun owners continued, as always, to have very public accidents as well, with five of them accidentally discharging their weapons at a skating rink, a motel, a gun shop (surprise!), a hospital, and an elementary school. Yes, that last one was our first armed parent to have an accidental discharge on the grounds of the elementary school from which he was picking up his kids. And yes, that parent is a former police officer and a firearms trainer who teaches concealed carry permit classes. But I'm sure the people trained by folks like this for a whopping four hours will never, ever have such an accident, despite their intention to carry in rooms full of 25+ kids for six hours a day, five days a week, 180 days a year.
.
This week's list, like most, is full of relatively mundane stories (with a few standouts) that would otherwise go largely unremarked-upon, much less shared nationally. But taken together, they serve as a reminder that dumb and unexpected things happen all the time. And the dumb and unexpected things that happen with guns tend to endanger not only the dumb and unexpecting, but their friends, families, neighbors and complete strangers both nearby and across distances, behind walls, or merely driving by.
.
This week's compilation of dumb and unexpected appears below the fold. And be sure to check out The TSA Blog Year in Review: 2013 for the amazing stats on guns and other weapons found at airports during this past record-breaking year.

Deputies found the bullet lodges in a trailer near where he was standing at the time. The victim drove himself to the hospital, Walton said, and is expected to be OK. The man who apparently fired the shot was identified by deputies, who spoke with him but did not place him under arrest, Walton said. When the report on the incident is complete, it will be filed with the district attorney’s office, who will decide whether to pursue charges, Walton said. Walton warned Rogers County residents to be mindful when discharging a weapon, no matter how sparse the location they are in. “We have a county that’s very densely populated,” Walton said. “This was actually lucky, there’s kids playing around there, and this thing could have easily caught one of them or caught this guy in the forehead and this could have been a casualty. “We get houses shot all the time. We answer calls repeatedly of someone shooting in an unsafe manner. A person has the right in the county to discharge firearms, but they’re also responsible for any negative results."

Nurses thought the chief was joking when he told them he’d shot himself, Counceller said. “It is an entrance and exit wound,” Counceller said. “I’m really lucky. It doesn’t even hurt. I’ll be back at work on Tuesday.” Mayor Leonard Urban said he also thought the police chief was kidding when he got the call saying he’d shot himself. “It was just a little accident. Dave is an excellent marksman,” Urban said Monday. “Apparently the Glocks don’t have the trigger safety that they should have.” The gunshot wound Saturday is not Councellor’s first. Fifteen years ago, Counceller said he accidentally shot himself in his hand.
