It's a matter of fear

 A Republican, for the most part, believes that he/she knows more, as an individual, than a collective group of minds could know. Witness their lack of trust in scientific proof (thousands of scientists world-wide) that man-made activities are causing global warming. I THINK that they are a little bit overconfident in their own intellectual capacity. Just sayin'.
