Washington must be in pretty sad shape.John McCain derided it as overrun by that “old, big-spending, do-nothing, me-first, country-second Washington crowd.” Mitt Romney railed against the liberals who have their mitts on the gears of government. Sarah Palin cannot wait to turn the place around.
Evidently, those Republicans who controlled Congress for most of the last decade better watch out.
It was an odd element of the Republican National Convention that so much disdain was heaped on Washington, considering that Republicans ruled the capital completely for most of the last eight years and that the 12-year Republican grip on the House was broken by Democrats just 18 months ago.
The unofficial slogan of the party gathering in St. Paul could have been: “We Have Met the Enemy and They Are Us.”
