The Impact Of Obamacare On Cancer Outcomes Is Becoming Clearer

BY TARA CULP-RESSLER NOV 25, 2015 8:33AM

More young women are getting screened and diagnosed with early-stage cervical cancer, potentially because Obamacare allows them to access insurance benefits through their parents’ plans, according to a new study from American Cancer Society researchers.

The researchers examined a large database that tracks cancer cases in the United States. They compared the cancer diagnoses among women between the ages of 21 to 25 to the diagnoses among women between the ages of 26 to 34 — both before and after the Affordable Care Act’s coverage expansion took effect.

An Obamacare provision that allows young adults to remain insured through their parents’ plans until the age of 26 appears to have affected the rates of cervical cancer diagnosis among that demographic. After the ACA, the diagnosis rates significantly rose for the women in their early twenties and remained fairly constant for older women.

“It’s a very remarkable finding, actually,” researcher Dr. Ahmedin Jemal told the New York Times. “You see the effect of the ACA on the cancer outcomes.”

November 25, 2015: So, I was out hunting on my own land when some other hunters, probably hunting on public land across the road, fired a shot that hit me. I called my wife, then 911 and was taken to the hospital. I told responders that I'd seen two hunters get into their car and drive off, so they probably were aware that they'd shot me. Still, looks like hunting season is over for me since I've since died.

November 25, 2015: I don't get it. They're sending me to jail! I live in Texas where we all carry guns and shooting someone else is just our morning wake-up exercise. WTF? I mean really, just because I was seen loading my gun just before I “accidentally” shot that woman? Damn – looks like the government IS trying to take away our second amendment rights.

November 25, 2015: So the ball-and-chain and I were having this argument when I just happened to have a gun in my hand and just happened to accidentally shoot her – to death. I wasn't too sure the cops would buy my story, so I moved her body to the bed, then cleaned up all the blood that was all over. I waited a day or two, then confessed to my neighbor and showed him her body. Really – I could be in some deep doo-doo over this. At least I'm not dead – like my wife.

November 24, 2015: So the 8-year-old girl next door was playing with her puppies. I opened the window and asked if I could play with the puppies too (I'm only 11 myself), but the bitch said no. So I got my father's shotgun and blew her away. I'm claiming I didn't do it and my great-grandparents believe me. You've got to love their loyalty.

Syria, et al., explained:

From politicalprof on Tumblr:

The western powers –along with some of their regional friends like the ever-wonderful Saudi Arabians, and some of their regional enemies like Iran – have basically decided that in the end, it is better to have brutal dictators in charge of Arab nations because after many decades of brutal rule by vicious dictators, including torture, wrecking their economies and utterly destroying any semblance of civil society, it is only vicious and horrific dictators who can suppress the horrors of the factions (like ISIS and al-Qaeda of Iraq) that were created … by the repressions of the brutal dictators. This is needed, we are told, because the factions are attacking the only thing they have ever known – savage brutality by the dictators – with the only thing they have ever known – savage brutality.

Simple, innit?

Scalia mocks gays for getting legal protections because 'nobody loves them'

Rss@dailykos.com (kerry Eleveld) · Tuesday, November 17, 2015, 3:36 pm

Justice Antonin Scalia was his usual repulsive self while speaking to Georgetown University law students Monday, equating sexual predators and child abusers with being gay for the purposes of First Amendment protections. Adam Liptak has the details:

He also allowed that the First Amendment protects political and religious minorities but suggested that there was no principled way for courts to make further distinctions based on the text of the Constitution. “What about pederasts?” he asked. “What about child abusers?”

“This is a deserving minority,” he said sarcastically. “Nobody loves them.”

Scalia went on to lament the fact that his colleagues don’t like to hash out cases with him in person.

Justice Scalia expressed frustration with how little debate goes on when the justices meet in private to discuss and vote on cases.

“I thrash out the cases with my law clerks much more than with my colleagues,” he said.

You mean, none of your peers want to talk to you, Scalia? Shocking. That’s why subordinates are so great—they don't have a choice.

On America's terrorism

From Robert Reich

On Friday, a gunman killed three at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado, later telling police “no more baby parts’’ while discussing his motive.

Last Monday, gunmen opened fire on Black Lives Matter protesters in Minneapolis.

Meanwhile, the FBI reports an upturn in threats on mosques and Muslims in the United States.

These are all forms of domestic terrorism.

The inflammatory rhetoric of certain presidential candidates hasn’t helped. Carly Fiorina continues to allege, despite evidence to the contrary, that Planned Parenthood is selling body parts of fetuses.

Donald Trump, meanwhile, says Muslim-Americans should be tracked, undocumented workers rounded up, and that a Black Lives Matter protester at his rally “maybe deserved to be roughed up.” Last August, when a man arrested for beating a homeless Latin man told police "Donald Trump was right — all these illegals need to be deported," Trump didn’t condemn the violence. Instead he said “people who are following me are very passionate. They love this country and they want this country to be great again.”

I’m not suggesting Trump, Fiorina, or any other presidential candidates are directly to blame for the hate crimes erupting across America. But they have fanned the flames of hate. And that is despicable.
