Education run amok

I was never very fond of the expression, "Those who can, do - those who can't do, teach." Some of our very best teachers are people who came from other professions in which they have "done." Other very good teachers aren't good because they did something else - they are good because they have the ability to analyze. explain and motivate. So the old adage is a cheap, and poorly thought out, insult without merit.

On the other hand, it is a crying shame that so much emphasis is being put on testing in education today - and most of those pushing the testing agenda have never taught and don't have a clue about the restraints they are placing on our schools. I'm willing to listen, however, if someone has a rationale for all of the testing except to shame teachers and the schools.
